I am deep within the Arctic Circle on a working ship looking for the Aurora Borealis. The Hurtigruten ships have been running this route for 121 years, carrying post, passengers and cargo along the dangerous Norwegian Coast. ‘Hurtigruten’ means ‘fast route’ because in the old days they wouldn’t be able to do such a treacherous route in as little as a week, but nowadays they are able to navigate along difficult stretches of rocky outcrops safely using tried and tested routes and well marked maps. It is a stunning trip and once back on dry land will be able to show you some of the amazing photos I have taken! You can also listen to my reports on BBC Radio Kent’s Drivetime with Dominic King at about 425pm on Monday 3rd February, Weds 5th February, and Friday 7th February where you can find out if we’ve been lucky!
For now here is me wrapped up at the start of the trip!
PS. It was -8C at the time!
